The studio have taken this year’s challenges as a positive opportunity to broaden their knowledge of digital fabrication.
Channeling their abilities further into product design, they have created an autonomous piece which was entirely designed and produced in-house. Preoccupied with defining a design language that is truly reflective of its origins, Binchy and Binchy have created the ‘Sadu Totem’ which playfully explores objects inspired by geometrical patterns found in Sadu weaving.
The Totem, an emblem of strength, represents this strange and reclusive time, when creators and makers found solace and fortitude in their passion for design.
The piece is a dialogue between tradition and technology creating an object which can bemass fabricated, yet feels unique and grants the user to take part in defining its functionality. The pieces are stacked and interlocked with decorative ‘keystones’ that can be used as independent display or storage elements.
