In a time of uncertainty, how do you create a vast public space intervention that is at the same time heterogenous in use, yet homogenous in reading? What are the solutions to activating public spaces during summer months in GCC cities? How do we cater for huge civic crowds with the same space we provide for intimate gatherings? How do we create an intervention that is both ecologically and financially sustainable? And finally, how do we invite people back into the public realm?
These are some of the questions the studio explores when contemplating a new model of public space for the Middle East. An ambitious concept at the intersection of culture, community and commerce, with highly legible solutions that not only offer multi-layered experiences, but also energise and invigorate its neighbourhood.
