A hypothetical restaurant designed for post-pandemic hospitality experiences, ‘Jundo’ focuses on design solutions that can positively influence mental and physical health without impacting the ambience. At the core of the studio’s solution is a system of kinetic ceiling installations that challenge conventional ideas of partitioning and transform them into immersive experiences.

Responsive to human movement and programmable to align with table reservations, the suspended feature will automatically lower to envelope tables, demarcate safe walking spaces and isolate groups in a manner that adds to their experience. It will rise to allow access and service.

Made from materials such as copper, bamboo and antimicrobial fabric that have intrinsic germicidal properties and integrated with sanitizing UV lights, the proposal showcases a solution that is both aesthetic, functional and responds to how the current pandemic may shape user mind-set.

This project is presented at 'The Shape of Things to Come' as a digital exclusive on Downtown Design's Instagram @downtowndesignd
