Opening on the 24th of October the Dubai Design Week in its second year has set its sight on covering the city with a breadth of programmes that cater to all aspects of the design community. For the seasoned design professional the Dubai Design Week offers a host of industry led talks, workshops, brand launches, competitions and awards.
Brand Launch: Woodfloors unveils new collection Imondi |24th to 29th of October at A3 Showroom, Al Ghurair Warehouse, Al Quoz 3
The award winning, eco-friendly flooring brand is best known for its reclaimed wooden flooring. Imondi is a pioneer in the design and production of high-end flooring and wall cladding made from reclaimed wood. Imondi’s salvaged collections represent the essence of their spirit, a collection of exceptional floors made using reclaimed woods sourced from all around the world.
Talk: Designing the connected city – Global nomads in the age of urban innovation |26th of October, 6:30pm-9:00pm at Al Joud Venue, The Westin Dubai, Al Habtoor City
Following the Kohler Design Forum series’ success in China and Singapore, Kohler in partnership with Sleeper magazine is bringing the forum to Dubai. The forum will focus on the theme of ‘Designing the Connected City – Global Nomads in The Age of Urban Innovation’.
Four highly renowned speakers will attend the forum to discuss the latest trends that are shaping the cities of the future.
Talk: Guest Experience Evolution |26th of October Building 7, 7:30pm-9pm at Office M01-2, Dubai Design District
Hospitality executive and hotel design tutor, Manuela Mannino shares her thoughts on the evolution of guest experiences and how hotels are becoming more engaged in their localities. Focusing on the social shift of hospitality trends and how hotel operators and responding to this, the talk takes the audience through strategic proposals lined up for the future and converting this change into an opportunity to innovate and transform brands.
Talk: Design Talk with Pallavi Dean Interiors |26th of October, 2pm-4 pm at Mirage Project Point
Pallavi Dean and Christina Morgan will host a design talk about commercial design, drawing upon the design of the Mirage Project Point, which they oversaw, with focus on the floor and wall coverings. They will also look at how porcelain tiles can be used in other ways, such as in furniture and kitchen design, which they will demonstrate.
Workshop: The Craft Journey with Etqaan|25th to 27th of October 10am – 4pm, 6.30pm and on 27th of October at Building 7, Retail Unit R05, Dubai Design District
Etqaan has designed this workshop to expose participants to three different experiences. The first experience is a set of academic lectures addressing design, material awareness, and fabrication. The second is a hands-on experience, with professional artisans to unfold the secrets of this authentic Arabian craft. Finally, the last experience is a series of success stories called “Designer Talks” that will take place every day at the end of the workshop.
