Back at Downtown Design for its 5th iteration, applications are now open for this year’s UAE Designer Exhibition with Omar al Gurg as the 2024 guest curator.
Dubai-born designer Omar Al Gurg endeavors to blend creativity, community, and functionality in his work, which has garnered some global acclaim. His works aspire to solve practical problems with a thoughtful design ethos.
A rising profile in the UAE’s creative scene, Omar himself debuted at the UAE Designer Exhibition in 2021, and since then founded the brand Modu Method striving to promote accessible design. Committed to accessible design principles, craftsmanship, and storytelling while drawing inspiration from his Arab roots, Omar aims to tell meaningful stories, subtly enriching the design landscape.
With Omar at the helm, the 2024 edition of the exhibition urges UAE-based creatives to prioritise comfort, convenience and functionality in the context of their work and the potential impact their designs can have on homes, communities, or public spaces.
The aim of this year’s theme is to invite designers, makers, collectives and studios to create with purpose and insight, emphasizing the importance of thoughtful and intentional design, ensuring their work will have a meaningful impact on its users.
