Founded in 1980 in Cologne, TASCHEN is a leading global publisher, renowned for its luxurious illustrated books across art, architecture, design, fashion, film, travel and pop culture. Being a driving force in making lesser-seen art available to mainstream bookstores, TASCHEN has published potentially controversial volumes alongside its more mainstream books of design, architecture, photography, painting, fashion, advertising, film and art.
Offering unrivalled access to the portfolios, archives, and personal vision of icons such as Jeff Koons, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Dennis Hopper, Paul McCartney, Annie Leibovitz, Zaha Hadid, Ai Weiwei, Naomi Campbell, Mario Testino, and the Rolling Stones, TASCHEN books are instant collectibles. The signed and limited collector’s editions – which often sell out before they hit shelves – have an outstanding record in asset appreciation, reaching up to 10 times their original market value.
At Downtown Design TASCHEN will showcase a wide range of titles - from architecture, design, photography, art and fashion to limited editions on Muhammad Ali, Valentino or Sebastião Salgado.
Keeping in line with the theme of the fair this year, TASCHEN’s focus will be on four main titles representing ‘Nature’ while paying tribute to the design aspect of the fair:
100 Contemporary Wood Buildings
This double-volume book travels the globe to investigate one of the greatest renaissances in architecture: wood. How has this ancient, elemental material come to steal the show at luxury hot spring structures and cutting-edge urban renewal schemes? With 100 projects from China, Chile, and everywhere in between, this international survey explores the technical, environmental, and sensory elements that have inspired both rising talents and established stars to turn to timber.
Cabins
With rich photography and bright, contemporary illustrations by Marie-Laure Cruschi, this international spread of rustic sanctuaries is at once a showcase of architectural and eco-friendly innovation and an inspiration for low-impact living.
Tree Houses
Branching out: childhood fantasy meets grown-up savoir faire
The Woodbook. The Complete Plates
TASCHEN’s Woodbook reproduces, in painstaking facsimile, all of the specimen pages from the original volumes; for this purpose they obtained the use of an extremely rare original set of volumes in very good condition, with minimal damage to the wood cuts. For all trees, now arranged in alphabetical order, three different cross-section cuts of wood are represented (radial, horizontal, and tangential), demonstrating the particular characteristics of the grain and the wealth of colors and textures to be found among the many different wood types. Also included in this special edition are lithographs by Charles Sprague Sargent of the leaves and nuts of most trees, as well as texts describing the trees’ geographical origins and physical characteristics.
Some design books published by TASCHEN include the works of Frank Lloyd Right, Gaudi, Charles and Ray Eames, Shigeru Ban, David Chipperfield and Zaha Hadid.
TASCHEN store locations worldwide include Amsterdam, Berlin, Beverly Hills, Brussels, Cologne, Hamburg, Hollywood, London, Miami, New York, Milan, and Paris. The TASCHEN Gallery opened in Los Angeles in 2014.
