Preciosa’s Crystal Automata designed by Vasku & Klug Studio

Inspired by the elements of fire, water, air and earth, Crystal Automata combines the fascination of automata and the beauty of crystal into a design collection that sets the movement of light in motion. The origins of automata and the Four Elements Theory lead back to antiquity and Greece. Alexander the Great’s conquest took this knowledge to Persia, where it was applied and preserved, before being exported to medieval Europe. Based on this fascination and knowledge, PRECIOSA has created Crystal Automata, and will showcase this unique collection at Downtown Design 2016.

Tamara Barrage’s Once Upon A Cauliflower lighting installation

Tamara Barrage is a Lebanese designer exhibiting with Beirut Design Week as part of the Destination’s initiative at Downtown Design.  Her poetic descitpion of this particular lighting installation piece, which was inspired by the Cauliflower, is open to some interpretation:

I'm not a designer. I'm a storyteller.
Every element in nature has a story to tell.
The story unfolds with every curve and in every bend.
Synthetic materials have their own tales, too.
They speak to us about far away, imaginary lands.
With every object, we all write the story together,
Each in turn.
And the results take us by surprise every time!
Once upon a time, Tamara met Cauliflower and Silicone.
This is their story…
