De Castelli’s latest collaboration with Nikita Bettoni is stunning in its simplicity and adherence to noble materials.

De Castelli has built a solid reputation in Italy and across the globe for its mastery in shaping iron and working with metals such as stainless steel, aluminium, Cor-Ten, iron, brass and copper. Coming from a family of blacksmiths, highly skilled artisans and craftsmen, its founder, Albino Celato, is the driving force of the company.

De Castelli’s increasing number of collaborations with talented designers and interior architects has led to the development of the Castelli Edition brand – comprising an ultra-contemporary collections by different creators such as Michele De Lucchi, Ron Gilad, and more recently, the well-reputed, Milan-based Nikita Bettoni.

Beginning with a commission for a private residence, Bettoni’s partnership with De Castelli has evolved to the stunning collections below:

Gioiello:

This day cabinet with open shelving (that is finished with natural or lacquered wood) and an elegant single drawer will be shown at Downtown Design. With slender legs and a unique-looking copper-fusion handle that is worked entirely by hand using an ancient technique, the beauty is in the details.

Mosaico

Mosaico can be interpreted as a refinement of Gioiello with its simple, rigorous shapes, hard and cold, a bit like metal itself. Perfectly bulbous and sculptural, there is a precision of decorative objects used to embellish the furniture; the metal shell is contrasts with the warmth of natural or lacquered wood, while two small drawers finished in hand-stitched leather complete the ensemble. Materials like brass, copper or steel are punch-cut and hand-brushed and a myriad of tiny pieces is hand-assembled, forming a mosaic of unique chiaroscuro effects.

 Solometallo

This irregularly-shaped console, which was first seen at this year’s Milan Design Week, has an unusual sense of proportions, balance and industrial edge.

The natural metals: copper, brass and stainless steels reach their full expression here to bring out natural chromatic contrasts and exuding utter elegance.
