Lisa Corti’s world is full of colour and pattern and her rich personal history is woven into every piece of her textile range. At Downtown Design she will be displaying her full selection of fabrics from her mezzeri throws, to curtains and cushions.

The fabrics and textiles from Lisa Corti are not only rich in colour and texture; but stitched into every one is a story.

The Italian designer was born and brought up in Africa and many of the patterns in her pieces are directly influenced from both this as well as her extensive travels to India.

“These memories are my cultural background, the roots underlying my stylistic and creative choices,” she says.

Her hand-sewn bedspreads, cushion, curtains and trademark mezzeris are made through the laborious technique of block printed using wooden blocks which are engraved, dipped in dye and applied to the fabric in layers.

The results present a balance between the incredibly diverse colours and patterns of the East with a Western contemporary edge as well as inscrutable quality. “I draw inspiration from different countries, cultures and environments,” says Corti. “I am always looking for idea of beauty and harmony, so it is not difficult for me to create a mix between East and West, Africa, India and Italy.”

Perhaps one of the most personable brands exhibiting at Downtown Design, the unique element to Lisa Corti designs is that each one bears a rich heritage.
