Downtown Design looks back at the fair last year highlighting its key feature areas and accomplishments

The commercial centerpiece of the Dubai Design Week; Downtown Design ran from the 14th-17th of November at its new location; the d3 Waterfront at Dubai Design District. The fair hosted an impressive range of brands from 28 countries across interior and furniture design, kitchens, bathrooms, workplace and materials.

Maintaining its renowned approach to detail, quality and relevance in selecting exhibiting brands, the 2017 edition of Downtown Design saw an increase in the scope and diversity of brands across all categories, including 90 new exhibitors who chose Downtown Design as the platform to launch their products to the Middle East market.

This year’s exhibitors include market leaders Kettal, Minotti, Moroso and Sancal, who between them collaborate with world renowned designers Patricia Urquiola, Sebastian Herkner, Jasper Morrison and the Bouroullec brothers.

Newcomers to the exhibitor line-up include iconic furniture, textile and lighting brands including B&B Italia, Designer’s Guild, MDF Italia, Meridiani, Marset, Sans Souci, Santa Cole and Vondom.

Key feature highlights of the 2017 edition of Downtown Design included the remarkable garden entrance designed and built by Dubai-based landscape architects desert INK, the reception designed by Pallavi Dean Interiors, the Lighthouse garden terrace in association with The Lighthouse and The Forum.

A series of talks and workshops aimed at industry professionals provided valuable insights into the region's rapidly evolving design industry, its innovation in design, trends and market changes. With content informed by Downtown Design’s panel of experts; the talks and workshops that ran through the 4 day fair were well attended by both industry professionals and design enthusiasts.

Headlined by Fredrikson Stallard; the programme also included David Lessard, Director of Hospitality at Perkins+Will; Sonali & Manit Rastogi, Founders of Morphogenesis; Abie Chung, Senior Associate at 5+ Design; and Dara Towhidi, architect and a partner at Foster + Partners.
