“A Persian Rug is Perfectly Imperfect, and Precisely Imprecise" says the old Persian proverb. It is an old tradition that wants carpet weavers to include minor flaws to their masterful designs; and yet, Persian rugs are as close to perfection as one can possibly get.
Said to date back 2,500 years, Persian rugs are renowned for their quality and craftsmanship – indeed, it can take weavers months or even years to create a large, top-quality carpet with intricate designs. This is how carpet weaving came to travel through centuries and across continents. And this is how Golran came to be one of the world’s top contemporary Persian rug producers.
Like all traditions that withstand the test of time, carpet weaving is an art that is passed down from generation to generation. Golran’s story started in 1898 in the city of Mashad, one of Iran’s oldest centres of carpet weaving, and is today carried on by Elihau, Elia and Nathan - the fourth Golran generation, who have fused age-old expertise with creativity and fresh ideas to take the company in a contemporary direction.
Golran is today based in Milan, Italy, and has many international collaborations with renowned designers and brands such as Moroso and Poliform. During Downtown Design 2014, Golran will showcase collections that range from their cutting-edge Raw Edges and Carpet Reloaded series to the classic, silk masterpieces that have become a must-have for art lovers and collectors alike.
