Expormim is a Spanish company with a great tradition of furniture production, starting in the 1960s when it first began making artisanal wicker furniture. Designing primarily for comfort, the brand specializes in highly functional outdoor furniture that is well-suited to Mediterranean lifestyles.
Throughout its history, Expormim has continued to re-invent itself to remain current; from the shortages of natural materials (cane and wicker) in the 70s to rattan’s fall out of style in the 1980s.
Expormim explains: "We like that our furniture speaks well of us. We want to express purity, simplicity, welfare and ethics associated with our region [Spain]. This helps our customers live better and enjoy the natural changes during different seasons. We intend to promote products marked with a Mediterranean character, and spread our worldwide."
Their latest design pieces, which will be featured at this year’s Fair, include the outdoor collections: Nido, Lapala, Plump and Twins.
Nido is a modular upholstered seating collection made of galvanized steel – a material that can withstand all types of outdoor weather – and finished with a double layer of zinc and polyester powder. The collection was designed by Javier Pastor, a university professor of industrial and graphic design, who explains “I dressed the steel structure of Nido with a roped braiding system. This has enriched the overall texture and finish of the collection, giving the user extra warmth.”
Lapala, designed by Lievore Altherr Molina, revives the former glory in the braided chair that is so typical of the Mediterranean. Lievore explains, “In her curves and gentle shapes, the sober, light and versatile character is still maintained. This update includes a significant increase in comfort with improved ergonomics and all-weather resistance. The chair was made using woven nautical rope on a painted stainless steel frame”.
Twins, designed by Mut Design is a collection composed of two armchairs that work well together or separately. The piece is a result of a pursuit for comfort through a new technical fabric that can conceivably work well in both outdoor and indoor spaces.
Finally, Plump, designed by the in-house Expormim team, is a timeless modular collection that becomes the centrepiece of all outdoor spaces.
