With a commitment to making things last, Emeco have a range of smart, sustainable and incredibly durable chairs that are also at the forefront of contemporary design.

Ever since 1944, when Wilton Carlyle Dinges of the Electrical Machine and Equipment Company (Emeco) was asked by the US government to make a chair strong enough to withstand torpedo blasts but at the same time was lightweight and weatherproof, Emeco have had philosophy to build things that last.

The chair that Dinges made in the 1940s was fashioned from 80% recycled aluminum and was welded to create a seamless one-piece look. It was called the 1006 Navy Chair and had a life cycle of 150 years.

Today, Emeco is on the leading edge of a movement in product development that promises a new, more intelligent and sustainable way of life. It is relevant to all of us but particularly in the Middle East where careful preservation of resources is even more relevant in all aspects of development.

Moreno Vitaloni, Emeco’s Regional Sales Director says, “After having been used in several prestigious projects throughout the GCC Region, we really want to increase Emeco's product awareness across the Middle Eastern Region. It seemed to us that Downtown Design will put a spotlight on timeless quality which is the main reason why we saw this event as an excellent opportunity to introduce our products to the market”

He added, “Matching Downtown Design’s willingness to offer to visitors an insight into the exhibitors,  Emeco will display, exclusively for this event, a unique piece which is an unfinished Kong stool, designed by Philippe Starck. The unfinished stool will be a showcase to exemplify the craftsmanship, timeless design, attention to detail and  sustainable material use within our products.
