Dubai South will also be home to the World Expo 2020 venue as well as the Dubai Airshow.
“The name is iconic and will become instantly recognisable for years to come,” said Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation.
“Dubai South is the emirate’s flagship urban project that will set benchmarks for the rest of the the emirate in terms of manifesting the themes of happiness as set out in Dubai Plan 2021.”
The newly rebranded Dubai South has two essential urban dimensions of living and commerce, reflected in its green and blue corporate colours. Green is representative of rebirth, growth and stability, while the blue stands for commerce and industry.
The city is expected to generate over 50,000 jobs and sustain a population twice that number.
“A vibrant economy, excellent roads, landmark buildings, and attractive recreational facilities are outstanding accomplishments we are proud of- but they are simply the means to a higher end, which is to facilitate the happiness of people,” Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum added.
