Beijing to debut new brands at Downtown Design

Beijing Design Week Organizing Committee and Dubai Design Week jointly announce Dubai as the Guest City at this year’s Beijing Design Week (BJDW), to be held from September 23 until October 7. In a reciprocal cultural agreement, BJDW will feature as a guest international design week at Downtown Design, during the inaugural Dubai Design Week in October.

In naming Dubai as Guest City, BJDW recognizes Dubai’s growing status as a global hub, world capital of culture and design and a meeting point in the Middle East for the international design community. BJDW Creative Director Beatrice Leanza comments, ’The appointment of Dubai as the 2015 Guest City resonates across a wider set of actions BJDW has undertaken to strengthen productive relations within the Asian region and encourage dialogue among its vibrant and diverse design cultures.’’

In return for hosting Dubai as their Guest City, BJDW will be part of the first edition of Dubai Design Week under the title ‘Destination’, a unique initiative held within this year’s Downtown Design alongside five other Design Weeks (Beijing, Helsinki, Istanbul, Melbourne, Mexico City and San Francisco) who will each present three of their most exciting emerging brands for the first time on the global stage.
