Creative director of Italian furniture brand Moroso explains why building close relationships with designers and architects is so important.

Moroso has been working in close collaboration with some of the world’s most talented designers to produce luxury sofas and seating since 1952. Headed by Agostino Moroso until the 1990s, the second generation continues to grow the brand by “becoming totally design-oriented,” says creative director Patrizia Moroso.

From its origins in post-war Italy, where there was a culture of “doing things and doing them well”, Moroso continues to develop projects with an international roster of designers and architects focusing on the concept of diversity.

“All our products are made with our heart, with lots of passion and with lots of love for the designer who conceived them,” Patrizia explains. “Let’s say they’re the fruit of a loving collaborative effort,” she adds.

Moroso presented David Adjaye’s Art Deco-inspired seating range at Downtown Design in October. Double Zero chairs and stools each comprise two circular pads that form the seat and the back. The upholstered cushions are held within rings of tubular stainless steel, which is also bent to form a supporting frame of sleigh-type legs and optional arms.

“If Adjaye’s Double Zero seating range was music,” Patrizia says, “it would be jazz”.
