In 1904, Georg Jensen founded the company that bears his name in Copenhagen, Denmark

In the land of Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid, Georg Jensen saw fantasy and fairytale in every day, and designed works of art that were as practical as they were decorative. Trained as a sculptor, Jensen was fired by the spirit of innovation and artistic invention and set out to forge a bold new path in silver design. He designed, created and sold silver hollowware, cutlery and fine jewelry from his charming shop in central Copenhagen.

Style Number 19, his graceful silver fruit bowl, later known as the Louvre Bowl, was acquired by the Louvre Museum in Paris in 1914, in recognition of the artistic importance of Georg Jensen design. In 1915, media magnate William Randolph Herst purchased Jensen’s entire body of work for Hearst Castle, in California.

Georg Jensen has partnered with leading artists, designers and sculptors from the get-go and after his death in 1935 these artistic partnerships continued. In 2013, Georg Jensen was acquired by Investcorp and David Chu, the founder of Nautica. Under his ownership, the brand has developed a new range of fine jewelry, adding gold, diamonds and richly coloured stones to existing styles; a new collection of men’s and women’s watches and a brand new portfolio of accessories for men. Chu has also added Heritage, a line of collection of historic and modern pieces of hollowware, cutlery and decorative objects for the home, collected by connoisseurs all over the world.
