An annual fixture in the design calendar, Downtown Design’s fair director Rue Kothari this month flew to Milan for Milan Design Week.

Here she shares her top 6 from over 350 events and shows scattered all over the city:

L’eclettico

Curator Claudio establishes a breathtakingly unique presentation of retrouve objects in bold vignettes, at his Milan gallery. A new favourite.

Lexus Design Award

Theme: Anticipation. Six shortlisted designers developed products that anticipate the needs of people and society, each mentored by an established name. The results were astoundingly innovative.

Mooi – The Unexpected Welcome

Every year the drama is amplified at their Tortona venue. Dark lights, atmospheric music, Rebecca Bathrory’s oversized images creating a backdrop to dynamic scenes. From the rebalanced Chesterfield to the bird lights…what’s not to fall in love with?

Nilufar Depot

A must-visit; dressed this time to illustrate the upcoming Squat project featuring collaborations with designers and architects as a preamble to the final unveiling of the first Nilufar concept apartment in London this June.

Wallpaper Handmade

Specially commissioned objects curated under the banner of Hotel Wallpaper, featured Adrien Rovero’s delicately proportioned ‘Sweets’ – soft, understated and ‘nude’.

Tom Dixon x Caesarstone

Quintessential showman Dixon, put on a culinary display with Caesarstone – featuring four kitchens representing four elements, reflecting and defined by their function and food.
