Downtown Design takes a look at designing today’s workplace with an understanding of tomorrow
In current times work is continually changing and so is the workforce meaning the workplace needs to incessantly evolve to keep up. Designing for an office in the past was more straightforward than it is now with considerations on the impact of mobile technology, implications of culture on workplace design and employees’ choice over the type and location of their work.
Given that employees spend more than fifty percent of their lives in indoor environments the impact of office spaces greatly influence their ability to perform, job satisfaction, mental status and actions. Organizations are now seriously considering the needs of their employees while at the workspace by working with designers to induce effective ergonomics and workflow.
While designing for these spaces, designers need to keep in mind the future understanding that the same office space will be used five years from now and perhaps by a different generation of employees. With the need to strike a balance between a fun workplace with one that follows order designers encounter the challenge of sourcing the right design materials for the project.
