With stores in Milan, Tokyo, Paris and New York and part of their collection in the Musuem of Modern Art, Cassina is one of the world’s leading brands for design furniture. Producing items of extremely high quality that stay in line with contemporary aesthetics, they show understated sophistication in all their products.
Recently, Cassina joined forces with Karl Lagerfeld on a photographic project that fused the world’s of art and design. Lagerfeld produced a series of black and white photographs featuring Cassina furniture and displayed them in the Milan store.
In April, Lagerfeld said that his passion for Cassina was motivated by the fact that from the beginning they have been producing the pieces of the best designers in the world. He quoted Le Corbusier, Gio Ponti and Jean-Marie Massaud, who, he said was “the best French designer at the moment.”
Luca di Montezemolo, president of Poltrona Frau, which controls the Italian furniture brand said that: “This collaboration was born in the most natural and simple way, because Karl is passionate about Cassina and he owns all the pieces he shot.” He added that Lagerfeld is “a man with great taste and he is able to always reinvent himself — qualities that he shares with Cassina.” This is also something that is very much akin to the Downtown Design project, reinventing as it is the very nature of a design trade show and what it should look like in the region.
Cassina will display the photographic project at Downtown Design as well as a number of collector’s items.
