Welcoming visitors to Downtown Design 2023, a multi-sensorial installation by Lisbon-based Arianna Bavuso and Andre Chedid was produced by hand in the UAE by Fantini Mosaici that provided a new entrance experience to the fair, marking its milestone 10th edition.
Titled ‘Carved in the Now’, the stimulating entrance experience designed by AB+ AC Architects welcomed visitors to the anniversary edition of the Downtown Design fair, 8-11 November. The feature incorporated a unique integrated multi-sensorial walk-through installation, showcasing the beauty of mosaic in a new light.
An encapsulating feature, the installation formed a kaleidoscopic room where spiritual qualities and creative transformation were projected in the infinite thanks to multi-perspective mirrors creating the illusion of a tower, seemingly carved from the cave, rising both overhead and underfoot.
“We took inspiration from the city of Dubai, with its desire to push the boundaries and limits of architecture and design. The powerful message that we want to express through this hand-crafted piece is inviting you to stay, slow down and discover, while replenishing your energy.”
The architects, Arianna Bavuso and Andre Chedid, were looking forward to making their debut in the vibrant Middle East design scene this year; “We look forward to unveiling our innovative approach to mosaic design. The contemporary and unconventional language that we chose for this project will transform the way you think about this ancient art form,” the duo stated.
