Portugal based furniture brand Bat Eye personify the collective memory of a city and its landmarks in their design pieces.

Through moments, expressions and textures that have been seized in cities around the world, Bat Eye aims to create pieces that remind us of bustling city life.

Bat Eye was founded by Portuguese architect, Marco Sousa, who, upon graduation, felt the need to create furniture that converged art and architecture. “Cities tell stories; we hear them and seize them, and at Bat Eye we interpret them to create our own distinct vision of the world. The city conveys life in every corner, in every street that goes unnoticed, even in places where people least expect it. That’s what we want our pieces to remind you of: the unnoticed bustle of city life.”

Exhibiting for the first time at Downtown Design 2016, Bat Eye will present their most popular furniture pieces including: the Arc Sideboard, Cask Mirror, Guilty Jewelry Box, Shard Sideboard, and, for the first time in the UAE, the Stone Sideboard.

Arc Sideboard – inspired by the D. Luiz I bridge in Porto - is designed in satin wood, with hand painted tiles on the drawers and an arc-shaped bridge made out of iron for its base.

The ‘Guilty’ jewelry box is a special edition piece that is inspired by the history and soul of Porto. Designed to meet the desires of women who love jewelry, ‘Guilty’ was created to resemble a jewel on its own, and was created using hand painted wood with details in gold brass and blue velvet fabric.

Granite is an integral part of the city of Porto; and the "Stone" sideboard was designed as an ode to this material.  This unique sideboard was handcrafted and finely coated with gold leaf paint and finished with a blue satin interior reminiscing the time when the whole of Porto was absorbed by the river. The Stone sideboard will be shown for the first time in the UAE at Downtown Design 2016.
