Influenced by her artistic beginnings, Emirati designer Roudha Alshamsi debuts at Downtown Design 2017

Guided by the inspiration or idea to depict a defined statement; Roudha Alshamsi`s design proposal is a concept geared towards colour decisions, space circulation and principals of the design process.

As reflected in her earlier works, Roudha was drawn to modern, contemporary and futuristic art after joining the design field. Not only does she aim to design contemporary spaces but also seeks to alter spaces that deliver a defined emotional state and convey articulate design concepts. Roudha says

“Just like a painter or a sculptor, the outcome of the design process is a mixture of an appropriate idea and refined skills.”

At Downtown Design 2017, Roudh Alshamsi makes her global debut with the launch of The Acacia Surface Series.

The result of a close study of the local environment; the bespoke collection consists of a coffee table and a side table. Inspired and named after the Acacia Tortilis, known as the Umbrella Thorn or Samr (locally) -  the Acacia Surface 1 & 11 are works of arts in itself. With unique stainless steel structure providing a base for both designs, the pieces reintroduce the idea of a table.

The Acacia trees are usually small, wiry and carry aromatic white flowers. The Acacia Surface Series derives its distinctive pentagonal fractals from the seeds that are perfectly adjacent to each other on a sphere of pentagon cones.
