Downtown Design exhibitor, Arclinea was founded in 1925 as a laboratory specialising in wood working. They shifted their focus to manufacturing kitchen furniture after 1960, showcasing designs that were considered way ahead of their time.
The development and evolution of the Arclinea kitchen has always mirrored the cultural and social transformation of its users, combining tradition and innovation, and prioritising functionality. Today, Arclinea has modified the concept of the kitchen, transforming it from a mere statement room, into a real living space, somewhere that enhances pleasure of preparing, cooking and sharing food.
Their collaborations with European designers characterized the brand’s evolution; from Ettore Sottsass to Enzo Berti. In 1987, Arclinea partnered with Italian architect Antonio Citterio, and together they have shaped the brand we know today – one where the best elements of a professional kitchen were adapted for domestic use.
“Kitchen design is based on questions affected by simple, concrete factors that are extraordinarily important because they are amplified by continual repetition, day after day. While organising a kitchen is basically a question of common sense, the best design project is invisible to the eye, yet tangible in its intelligence with every gesture, every time we cook, at whatever level, whether humble or sublime”. Antonio Citterio, Architect.
