What are the biggest trends in tableware for 2016?
2016 will see the reinvention of luxury and rarity with the continued use of precious metals and stones. Contemporary styles see designers experiment even further in 2016 with clean simple lines and simulated appearances of raw industrial materials such as concrete fused together with copper and rough raw fabrics such as linen. Pastel continues into the winter months, and gold will give way to copper. As an overall style, the romantic is juxtaposed with industrial - something I personally adore.
How do these play a part in your conceptual approach?
I’m forever interested to see what’s trending but never let it completely influence my personal style. Only when you have a solid understanding of your personal style can you experiment with more daring elements. I love to be bold and step outside the boundaries of expectation.
“It’s all about the details.” What does this mean to you?
Details are everything for me, I am a perfectionist! It’s the details that bring an interior space or tabletop to life. These are fine-tuned down to colours, shades, shapes, textures and light. A room or table without details is like a man without a soul.
Which brands would you advise investing in?
I am a great believer in craftsmanship. I prefer to invest in quality rather than quantity. Things I know will last and that I will cherish in years to come, brands that have a strong company history for various reasons. There is a sense of history and significant craftsmanship applied that has been handed down for many generations which I appreciate like a piece of art.
How would you define your philosophy in interior design?
Interiors are such a personal part of who you are and should never be ignored. Your space is your sanctuary; therefore it must be inviting. It’s extremely important to understand what you like and what you don't like, what makes you feel happy and comfortable, and what could perhaps make you feel bored. Hence when doing up a space I always believe in taking your time, the more you rush the more mistakes you make and don’t be frightened to have fun!
