Established in 2012 by the non-profit MENA Design Research Center, Beirut Design Week brings together more than 25,000 visitors and over 150 events in various locations in Lebanon. The mission of the event is to promote intercultural exchange, design education, entrepreneurship and provocative critical thinking.
For its seventh edition themed under ‘Design and the City’ the wide spectrum of the creative industry collaborated with activists, environmentalists, artisans, entrepreneurs, and researchers to present cross-disciplinary initiatives that demonstrate how design can contribute to social change through social inclusion and environmental justice. Drawing inspiration from local grass-roots movements, the festival offered a community-led platform for inclusive, experimental models for the urban experience.
