Abierto Mexicano de Diseño is the first international design festival in Mexico and the only of its type in Latin America. The festival is dedicated to celebrating all aspects of design and bring them closer to society. The programme encompass all design disciplines, which we have been grouped in 5 categories: architecture, graphic, textile and fashion, industrial design and other forms of design; and includes cultural and commercial exhibitions, installations, conferences, presentations, projections, workshops, actions, parties, guided visits, tours and different outdoor events within the Historic Centre of Mexico City.
The festival is a platform that through its democratic call for entries, allows designers, enterprises, organisations, embassies and universities to concentrate efforts and present in an integral way, the most recent production off these creative disciplines in a festive and collaborative environment.
It had its first edition in 2013 with 190 events across Mexico’s Historic Centre and 220 events in 2014. In 2014 it managed to reach more than 80,000 visitors in the most important cultural venues of the city and 680,000 spectators to events across significant public spaces where monumental installations were commissioned by the festival to international guests such as: floral designer Azuma Makoto (JP), architect Kengo Kuma (JP), light designer Moritz Waldemeyer (UK), multidisciplinary design studio El Ultimo Grito (UK), among others.
